Redundancy Pay Breakdown
How Statutory Redundancy Pay is Calculated

Statutory redundancy pay is based on three factors: your age, your length of continuous service (up to a maximum of 20 years), and your weekly pay (capped at £700 for 2026/27).

For each year of service, you receive a multiplier based on your age during that year:

  • Under 22: half a week's pay per year
  • Age 22 to 40: one week's pay per year
  • Age 41 and over: one and a half weeks' pay per year

The maximum statutory redundancy pay for 2026/27 is £21,000 (20 years × 1.5 × £700). Note: this calculator uses your current age as an approximation across all years of service, which may slightly differ from the precise calculation that accounts for your exact age in each year.

Redundancy Pay Calculator FAQs

How much redundancy pay am I entitled to in the UK in 2026?
Your entitlement depends on your age, years of continuous service (up to 20 years) and weekly pay (capped at £700 for 2026/27). Workers under 22 get 0.5 weeks' pay per year; ages 22–40 get 1 week; ages 41 and over get 1.5 weeks. The maximum statutory payout is £21,000. You must have at least 2 years of continuous service to qualify.
Is redundancy pay taxable in the UK?
The first £30,000 of redundancy pay (statutory or enhanced) is tax-free. Any amount above £30,000 is subject to income tax at your marginal rate, but is not subject to National Insurance contributions. If your total package exceeds £30,000, your employer should deduct tax through PAYE or you may need to declare it via Self Assessment.
What is the cap on redundancy pay in the UK?
For 2026/27, statutory redundancy pay uses a weekly pay cap of £700, regardless of your actual salary. The maximum total statutory payment is £21,000 (20 years × 1.5 weeks × £700). Your employer may offer enhanced redundancy above this statutory minimum, and the £700 cap does not apply to any enhanced element.
Can I claim redundancy if I am made redundant while pregnant?
Yes. Being made redundant while pregnant or on maternity leave does not affect your right to statutory redundancy pay, provided you have 2 or more years of continuous service. It is also unlawful for an employer to select you for redundancy because of your pregnancy or maternity leave. If you believe this has happened, you may have a claim for automatic unfair dismissal and pregnancy discrimination.
